What Causes Swelling In Side Of Head Upto Ears?

I was feeling the top right side of my head tonight and noticed that from the top to almost below my ear it is noticably swollen. My head has hurt for probly months now but I never noticed this much of a change. I have not been recently injured so I'm concernd. What might it be?
