What Causes Swelling Of The Inside Of Upper Lip?

for several weeks the inside of my upper lip has been swollen and feels raw.... other than a little redness there is no visual reason for this . It feels like when I had braces years ago and the wires and metal bands would scrape the inside of my lips. this seems to be isolated to my upper lip
