What Causes Swelling On An Insect Bite Site?

I am a 2o year old female, normal weight with no history of allergies to insect bites. I woke up this morning with a large itchy insect bite on my hip after spending the day outside yesterday. It doesn't tch as much anymore, but a vein crossing the bite is now swelling up. Should I be worried?
