What Causes Swelling On Face After Traveling By Air?

My wife had sever pain behind both ears, and traveled to the front. Left her whole head sore as when she has had migraines. Face is still swollen on the left side, this is five days old. Left side was red, itchy, and had fever. She isn't too concerned but I am not comfortable.
