What Causes Swelling On Neck And Face Along With A Sore Throat?

My 93 year old mother s neck and face are swollen and her speech is thick. This morning she said it hurt from her ear to her throat. She sounds like she has a sore throat but didn t complain of one. Her temperature is 99.8. She said she feels better but has taken to the bed all day.
