What Causes Swollen And Hot Knee After Partial Knee Replacement?

My husband had a partial knee replacement 3 weeks ago, today I was feeling without looking at both knees for the swelling and his knee is extremely hot, so I asked him if it had been that way and he said after working it that he felt it was hot but didnt realize that it was onthe outside of the skin until I had noticed it. Is this normal?
