What Causes Swollen Gland And Soreness In Neck?

My mother is experiencing soreness in her neck, swollen gland (neck), and numbness in both her fingers and toes. All on the left side. Also, general soreness and fatigue. She is 66 years old and otherwise in good health. This has occurred off and on for several months.
