What Causes Swollen Gland In Neck?

hi, just got operated upon, a few days back, on my neck, right side, swollen gland was removed, biopsy report still to come out, as per all the reports, the doc says swollen glands are normal for females (i am male, 27 years btw), does happen in some males, doc still not sure whether its cancerous or not but it had to be removed anyway....it had been around for some 2 years, no prob whatsoever...any reason to believe it may be cancer?
