What Causes Swollen Glands And Sore Ears?

my son has had swollen glands for last 3 weeks and still cant swollow hard foods he says it feels as though the food is stuck after he swollows. he did have a cold and sore ears 1 week prior to him getting the swollen glands. This happened after he went swimming at the pools.
