What Causes Swollen Leg With Black Bruise On It?

When I was at work, I itched my left leg below the knee, didn t think anything of it, it became itchy again about half hour later. When I got home 3 hours later, I noticed a 3 inches around in circle black bruise. It hurt to touch. And my leg was swelled. Any ideas?
