What Causes Swollen, Tender Bruising On Palm Of Hand?

I had my radial vein in my left wrist burst without any activity It is swollen, tender bruising from the palm of my hand and down about 4 inches. It started throbbing, itching and stinging and the vein was huge and rock hard then you could watch the blood pool under the skin. In a matter of 10 seconds my wrist was twice the size. My Palm gets hot and fingers and thumb going numb intermittently. What do I need to do? Should I do a compression wrap?
