What Causes Swollen Tonsil With Pain And Discharge?

I have had a sore throat approx 1-1/2 mos with an asymmetrically swollen tonsil on the R approx 2wks ago i went to the er with ear pain and was told my ear drum was retracted i received antibiotics and took them as RX'd after completion of the meds i have had some what appeared to be a pimple and some paste like exudate came out of the tonsil however it is still swollen accompanied by pain with swollowing could this be throat cancer
