What Causes Swollen Tonsil?

my son has a swollen tonsil and was prescribed antibiotics he also has a temp of 40 i managed to get three lots out of four of the antibiotics in yesterday but now he wont hae it i have had the medicine changed but he is refusing to have it, his temp has started to lower and is now 38.9 but i am worried it will raise again
