What Causes Tea Coloured Urine After Stomach Infection?

My boyfriend had surgery on his foot. Four days later he got a nasty stomach virus that caused him to have dry heeves for almost 5 days. He couldn t eat & could barely keep water down. He is also an insulin dependant type 2 diabetic. No matter what I did, I couldn t get his blood sugar down. At some points it was almost 500. That lasted almost a week. As a result, his surgery sight got infected. I have managed to get the infection & his blood sugar under control finally. He is eating, but not as much as usual. Plus he is drinking about 3/4 of a gallon of water per day For a good 4 days now. My concern is that his urine is now tea colored. From my understanding, this means there is blood present in the urine. He won t go to the doctor for it. Is there an home test I can do? Should I call his dr myself & explain this & see if he can convince my boyfriend to go in? I m frustrated because he doesn t want to listen to me. What do I do??
