What Causes Tenderness And Burning Sensation Around Ears?

I have a pretty severe tenderness/ burning sensation when palpating my face just anterior to my ear. There is noticeable swelling when I hold my fingers in the location and open and close my mouth. What s this about? Pulled muscle? Tmj? Dental issue perhaps?
