What Causes Thick Dark Lump Like Discharge During Periods?

Hi, I am wondering why I am getting really thick lumps of black blood on my pad and I'm on my period. It's been heavy for a few days, and red and so heavy that is leaking through the pad and I am using the most absorbent pad I can get. I had a baby 8 weeks ago. Is it because of that or something else.
