What Causes Thick Mucus Discharge When On Nuvaring?

I have the nuvaring for my controlled bleeding/ birth control. This period I had 1day an was very thick. I noticed a thick mucus when it first started.(if helps) by second day it was acting as if was done. It was remenance of left over for 2days after. ???
