What Causes Thick Mucus Vaginal Discharge While On Contraceptive Pills?

1 day very light period on my pill free week and now for past 4 days i have had abdominal tenderness and pain in left side accompanied by deep red/brow thick mucus discharge thats been there for the past 7 days+...im just looking for information of why this is happening. thanks
