What Causes Throat Pain While Swallowing?

I think I burned my esophagus, when I swallow I have pain and it felt like I was having a heart attack and went to the er and they said my heart was fine. But they didn't give me an answer as to why it was still hurting. Also when I drink coffee it kills me, so I have stayed away from that and just going to try and eat soft foods and cool drinks for a few days and see if that helps.
