What Causes Throbbing In Head?

My boyfriend is saying that when he woke up this morning and looked into a light he felt terrible. He couldn't walk straight and when he attempted a shower as soon as the water hit his head it felt like it was on fire. He says right now when things touch his head it throbs. Should he go to the hospital. He's saying he'll wait for it to get worse to go but I don't want anything bad to happen to him. Please help!
