What Causes Throbbing Pain In Anus And Pain While Coughing?

I have a small throbbing pain in my anus that has been happening for about 2 days, I am not constipated, but it does hurt more when I cough and has a pulling or throbbing sensation. My wife looked in the region and said that there was no obvious swelling to her untrained eye. I am due to leave town at the end of the week and am not sure that I can a Doctors appointment in that time, does this qualify as needing a trip to the ER? It s a nagging pain, but not affecting my sleep, or bowl movements, but I am conscious of it during the day.
