What Causes Thumping Feeling In Chest?

When I lie down I get these strange thumps inside my chest that are sometimes strong enough to keep me awake for some time. What is th cause ? I had an ECG a couple of years back when this problem started and th doctor said ECG was normal . Now after two years this problem has started again.
