What Causes Tingling Sensation Shooting Down The Arm?

I work out with weights 3 times a week. I have a sore back near the neck/spine. Besides the soreness (which is tolerable) I get a tingling shooting down my arm and causing numbness in my right hand. Is this just a soreness or a pinched nerve? I've been taking Aleve for about 5 days and then quit taking it but the symptoms returned.
