What Causes Tongue Pimply Appendages With Redness And Discomfort?

my tongue has been bothersome like I had been making out forquite a while, but I haven't.Upon examining the underside if my tongue on either side I'm seeing small appendage about 1/16 long on the left and a smaller one on the right. there are other small red like pmples on both sides. Is this cancer. I recently had an out break of herpes simplex which has not bothered me for years. the out break was not from sec activity. could these small appendags be from the herpes attack?
