What Causes Tracheal Irritation After Appendectomy?

I have an irritated trachea from the removal of my appendix yeserday. I am freaking out trying to clear my throat so much that my sore stomach from the operation is getting most sore. there's probabaly no phegm in there but it feels like i can't get it out and can't stop. what could i do to soothe it?
