What Causes Unexplained Lump On Left Shoulder Area?

I have noticed that my left shoulder upper back muscle area has a raised baseball size lump. I have not fallen or hit anything to cause this. should this be something I should have looked at. There really is no pain, but there is popping when I move my arm in a circular manor.
