What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Having Sex?

hi, i am 24 years old..i have been with the same partner for 2 years..the last time we had sex, i discovered a lot of blood on me and him let alone on our bed.about an hour later it has stopped completely.this is never happen before. can you give me any ideas what might be going on?
