What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Stopping Birth Control?

I had my period around Valentines Day (February 14, 2010), and stopped my birth control pill about a week before that, and just yesterday started bleeding thinking my period was just early because I stopped my birth control, but today the bleeding has completely stopped. Could I be pregnant or could it just be because I stopped my birth control?
