What Causes Vaginal Infection After Having Sex?

my wife is complaining abdominal pain after sex which lasts for a few days. she used to had such type of pain once she was suffering from UTI. Now we have come to know that it is due to vaginal infection.
I want to know what tests should we conduct to confirm the cause and thereby to get a permanent cure.
