What Causes Vaginal Spotting Along With Abdominal Cramps?

I had a partial hysterectomy in 2005. Just the top of the uterus. I still have ovulation pain and normal cycles (meaning I know when I would be menstruating). Tonight I experienced minor spotting. Just brown and minor but this is a first for me since the surgery so I wanted to make sure it wasn t something to see a DR. about. I have experienced some cramping and my teen daughter says she also got her period today. I have never had an abnormal pap and no family history of anything of note (cancers etc.).
