What Causes Vaginal Spotting?

Well I got my period 2weeks OK and for the last couple of months I have spoting of blood but it s not consistent it just happens sometimes I went to the emergency room and all they did was see if I have any STDs but everything come BC normal I m 29 years old is this normal ad I don t have any pain
