What Causes Vomiting And Hiccups After Hernia Repair Surgery?

My husband had two hernias repaired last Thursday.Today he vomited twice and then gets the hiccups every time he drinks anything, even a few swallows. I have spoken to his surgeon, they gave him a RX for nausea. Just read it might be a a pulmonary embolism?..
