What Causes Waist And Back Pain While Treating Osteoarthritis?

I already have osteoarthritis but the last few days am having pain just above my waist, to the side, then round my back. It starts off like pins and needles then graduates to very tender and sore to the touch. It has stopped me sleeping for several nights now. Any ideas please?
