What Causes Warts In Genital Area?

My boyfriend has genital warts just below the glans penis, between the junction of glans penis and shaft. We've been having sex for about 3 months. The warts is around the junction. Is there any possibility that i get infected with the warts even if its not bleeding? He said that he has this warts since he started masturbating when he was still a teen. Hope you can help me. I'm so worried cause he doesn't want to have a check up..
