What Causes Watery Brown Discharge?

I've had a weird cycle this month my period was a day late and lasted a day. Normally they last 5 days and are heavy. On top of that for a couple of days after ive had watery brown discharge with mild cramps hiusband and I have been trying to conceive. I already have a 7 yr old son ..what could this be?
