What Causes Weakness In Left Hand And Discomfort In Armpits?

67 yr old female. weakness in left arm and hand. grip is not good. Some discomfort in armpit area. Had a cat scan done and Dr. stated no mini stroke..... wants me to take steroids, feels its a pinched nerve... I don't have pain and I always thought with a pinched nerve you do have pain.
