What Causes White Area Of Skin Under Knee After Having Surgery On Foot?

I had minor surgery to remove a lump on my foot under a general anasthetic. When I removed the bandage, I noticed that I had a white area of skin under my knee that had not been there before. It is obviously a lack of pigment - about 2 inches in circumference - but what could have caused this?
