What Causes White Rough Patch In The Bend Of Thumb?

I have a small circular white rough patch in the bend of my thumb. I first thought it was a scrape, then it turned into something more rounded and it has a pretty obvious hole in the center but there is no black in the hole. It is painful to the touch and is rough to the degree of being almost crusty.
