What Causes White Slimy Discharge From Vagina?

hello,im 37 years old i was on birthcontrol for many yaers and stop taking them about 4 months ago im having heavier periods allso since i stop taking the pills,but i notice that i have a clear slimy dicharge that streatches like mucus from the nose ,no itching,no odor just more wetness and slime,im not having sex either,i remember having this problem in my younger years,being on the pill stoped it from occuring,but now that im off the pill im getting this slimy clear discharge.is birthcontroll my only option?
