What Causes White Spots On The Nails?

gdafternoon.this is mrs dcosta here.i hav a son who is 9yrs old n he is suffering from rough nails....they are not smooth like the normal nails n also have white spots.i noticed this wen he was 3yrs.would like to know how this happens n wht is the solution to it.next is he has got an infection on the left side of his lip.this is d 2nd time he has got dis.it takes days together too heal.consulted a doc n he said it was viral n prescribed supraviran cream.it is still not cured completely.would be very happy if u guide me on this two problems.
