What Causes Whitish Lines On The Tongue?

My girlfriend has a strain of HPV that causes cervix cancer. She has low immunities and constantly has to have it monitored. My question comes from a new concern of what looks like white lines on her tongue. Can HPV spread to the mouth? We have not had sex in a very long time and never oral sex. She s very careful to wash her hands any time she touches her genitals. Should she have it checked by the specialists she sees?
