What Could Be The Brown Line From Thumb To Wrist?

My work involves using computers. I am constantly at the keyboards. I noticed recently that I developed a medium brown line from the base of my left thumb to my wrist. My right wrist has just a small line. I heard this could possibly due to the skin constantly in contact with the surface of the laptop. Could this be the case or is it something else?
