What Could Be The Reason Of Vaginal Itching?

I have a vaginal itch that comes and goes. I have not had a partner for over 8 years. This has been a problem for a few months on and off. I am 52 and I had a hysterectomy at age 39. I have always had a problem with harmonal imbalance and cystic ovaries. Any idea what may be going on?
