What Could Be The Red Dry And Flaky Area In Skin?

I have a single red spot that is slightly raised and painless, no more that 0.5 cm at the widest area. When I first noticed the spot it appeared dry and flaky, however today it looks reddened and slightly raised with well defined borders, irregular in shape. I am 52 and this is my first time getting this spot.
