What Could Cause Dark Red Bleeding Just After The Menstrual Cycle?

Hi I am 23 years old, 5 ft 6 in tall,130 lbs I have been off of the depot shot now for 8 months. I have had a normal period for the last four months but this month I ended on the 7th and I started again on the 13th but its real dark red. What could cause this?
