What Could Cause Painful Sex?

Hi Sure, I am a female 57 years of age,married 34 years. My problem is that the last time my husband and I tried to be have sex I could hardly stand for him to touch my vaginal area and when he entered( with lubricant) it felt very painful(burning sensation) I could not finish. I am not discharging and I itch a little but I am very sensitive. Do I need to go see a doc.?? PS this is embarrassing.
