What Could Circles Appearing In The Area Between Ear And Eye Be?

Hello, my son is two yrs old and he has two perfect circles on the sides of his head between his eye and ear. They are extremely obvious, and I was told that they are his veins. Could it be something more drastic? He has no issues with the circles, and he hates to be examined. The doctor brushed it off as if it were minor, but I have never really seen anything like it. Would a second opinion be best?
