What Could Dark Spots On Penis Suggest?

My husband has a spot on his penis where the skin just came off....and around this area is darkened in color, almost like a bruising of the tissue. His medical doctor referred him to a dermatologist, but he cant see him for 2 weeks.........he is very concerned.
