What Could Discoloration In Middle Of Chest Region Suggest?

My 17yr old son showed me his chest last night that had a dirty discoloration to it. It went down the middle of his chest and across in stomach and his clavicle area. It looks like dry dirt. Does not itch. He says it started about a month ago and now has progressed. Any suggestions?
