What Could Inflamed Tonsils Suggest?

I had a cold with inflammed tonsils. That resolved but now i have a spot on the right side near the base of my palatoglossal arch. It's about a cm in diameter and causes radiating pain to my rt ear. It is painful to swollow and my glands on my rt neck are swollen and tender. I've tried Salt water gargles, ibuprofen, chloracepitic spray, and mylanta/Benadryl gargle. All seem to help a little. What do you think it is? Canker vs Squamous cell ca? It has been a week and I can't sleep well due to the pain.
